WHY ORIGIN ROASTED?
OUR COFFEE IS UNLIKE ANYTHING YOU HAVE TRIED BEFORE.
OUR COFFEE IS ALIVE
We might call them coffee beans, but they really are seeds. These seeds are alive right after harvesting and progressively die during the course of storage. At Quintal Coffee we store our green coffee close or directly at the farm and under ideal conditions to ensure that the green coffee we roast is literally alive. By alive we mean that if we were to plant this coffee, a plant would sprout. It has been shown that the fresher and more lively are green coffee beans, the better they taste when roasted and consumed.
Most coffee roasted in the U.S spends months in harsh shipping conditions aboard cargo ships followed by long periods of storage, in which the green coffee beans literally die. This reduces the quality of the green beans before they are roasted and consumed.
Good coffee starts with fresh green coffee. “Freshly roasted” is just half of the equation.
SUSTAINABLE
The coffee industry relies on producing countries exporting green coffee at sometimes unsustainable prices. By roasting at Origin more value remains within the producing country because we pay for more skilled labor to profile, roast, package, and manage the operation. In turn, coffee consumers benefit because a more sustainable value chain produces higher quality coffee.
EXPERIENCE
Each month we send a different coffee from the most recent harvests across Latin America. You will learn and experience new varieties, new processes, and new incredible coffees. You also can be sure you will be enjoying the most authentic experience, knowing that just a few days prior, the coffee you are drinking was in the producing country.
Our mission is to get you the most vibrant and lively experience as each month a new coffee with a unique story arrives at your doorstep.
MORE EFFICIENT.
The coffee industry has alway had many intermediaries: exporter, importers, roasters, retailers, and finally the end consumer.
We cut this process in half: farmers -> Quintal -> end consumer. We pay at least 100% higher prices to the farmers, pay for specialized labor to roast and profile our coffee at Origin, and give 10%-50% lower prices to our subscribers (for the same level of green coffee and compared to other specialty coffee subscriptions).
